The History
Who says Dreams can't come true? For Betty and Allen Meads, Elizabeth City natives and High School Sweethearts, the dream of owning a restaurant has come true. All through our 40 year marrige we had often talked about owning a family style restaurant. We spent 23 years of marriage moving around during our Navy career and when we retired in 1990 we were already back in Elizabeth City. Twenty one years ago Betty went to work as a waitress at Colonial
Restaurant, already an Elizabeth City Landmark for many years. The Poulos Family started the business and the present building was built in 1961. After the Poulos Family retired, and two owners later, Betty and Allen were asked if they would be interested in buying the business. With our kids already grown and on their own, we couldn't pass up the opportunity.
With many thanks to the Poulos family for their guidance, our great staff, and most of all our loyal customers, we have seen a steady growth since
we took over on January 31, 2005. If you are looking for good home cooking at a great price, visit the Colonial Restaurant, 418 E. Colonial Ave., Open Mon. - Fri. 5:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Sat. 5:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
